Stole magnesium tablets

A retired 73-year-old racked up a conviction for theft of a jar of magnesium tablets when his case was dealt with at the District Court.

Maciej Pawlowski with an address at 16 Church Street in Gorey spotted taking the security tag off the jar at McCauley’s in Wexford on April 12 last. He left the shop without paying and was then intercepte­d, with gardaí called.

In court, where he had the assistance of a Polish translator, he said that the goods, which were worth €14.50, were for his wife.

He said that he took them out to allow her check that they were the correct tablets.

A fine of €100 was imposed.
