COMMUNITY FIELD, GARRYWILLI­AM

Despite the harsher weather of recent weeks, there are good numbers availing of the walking track at the field. The track is lit till 10 p.m. each night helping everyone stick to their resolution to Get Active in 2019. A small contributi­on to the honesty box is always appreciate­d. Repairs to the entrance road are being arranged.

Ballymurn FC is the current resident at the soccer pitch. New members (adults) are welcome. Contact Vinny Quirke at 087 6824077.

CANDLES FOR THE ALTAR

It is a long standing tradition that candles are supplied by the people of the parish for their local church. If you would like to supply candles for the coming year you may purchase them in Costcutter­s Ballymurn orb in the Cenacle bookshop Wexford.

ST PATRICK’S WEEKEND RUN/WALK

Galbally Sports and Leisure Club will host a 10k run and 5k walk on bank holiday Monday, March 18. The event will begin at 11 a.m., with registrati­on taking place from 10 a.m. onwards. Entry fee is €5 for the 5k walk and €10 for the 10k run. Both events are open to all ages and abilities. The 10k race will be chip timed and there will be prizes for the first man and woman home. Refreshmen­ts will be served to all participan­ts in the hall afterwards. Everyone is invited to come along and get involved in what promises to be a great community event.

SLANEY VALLEY ADVENTURE RACE

This year’s Slaney Valley Adventure Race will take place on Saturday, February 16. Check-in is from 9 a.m. at Bree Community Centre with the first wave of competitor­s starting at 10 a.m.

The race comprises of a 30km Cycle, a 1km Kayak and a 6.5km Forest Run. Register online at njuko.

The number of balls in the club lotto will drop from 32 to 28 increasing the chances of winning. GALBALLY TRACTOR RUN

The annual Galbally Tractor Run will take place on Sunday, May 26, Bree AC News.

Bree AC AGM and Awards Night will take place in Bree Community Centre on Thursday next, February 7, at 7.30 p.m. All parents and athletes are welcome to attend. Best wishes to all local athletes competing in the Leinster Indoor Championsh­ips in Athlone next weekend and best of luck also to Lea Bolger competing with the Wexford under-11 Team in the National ‘B’ Cross Country Championsh­ips.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Community Chess and Draughts has resumed in Galbally Hall on Wednesday nights from 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. All children from eight years to 15 years are welcome. Cost is €2 per child to a maximum of €4 per family. The Co Community Games will begin shortly. The local area will be represente­d in quiz, Talent, art, Swimming, Athletics, Chess, Draughts and tag rugby. SMART FITNESS

Smart Fitness has reopened for 2019 in Galbally Community Centre at 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday Evening. Classes 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. are available for only €13 for two or €8 pay-as-you-go. Kettlebell Fitness and Circuit Training Classes suitable for all Fitness Levels and all ages. A meeting of Scoil Mochua’s parents’ associatio­n will take place on Tuesday, February 19, at 8 p.m. All parents/guardians are invited to attend.

GRANDPAREN­TS’ DAY

Grandparen­ts/special persons are invited to visit their grandchild’s classroom on Friday, February 8, from 1.15 p.m. to 1.40 p.m. There will be refreshmen­ts and a short assembly from 1.50 p.m. to 2.15 p.m.

GET WELL WISHES

Best wishes for a speedy return to full health to the people from the area who are sick at home or in hospital. For security reasons and to maintain their privacy, their names will not be published unless requested by themselves or their next-of-kin. Don’t forget that on the First Friday of every month, the Rosary will be recited in St Mochua’s Church, at 7.30 p.m. for the intentions of the sick of the parish.

RECIPES FOR SUCCESS

Oulart-The Ballagh GAA Club is working towards achieving a Healthy Club Accreditat­ion from the GAA and one of the areas being promoted is Healthy Eating. The club is hosting a Healthy Eating and Cooking Workshop for players 13 to 18 years, to be held in Gorey Community School, on Saturday, February 2, from 10 a.m. till midday. This event is free to club members and is being hosted by Home Economics teacher, Mrs Imelda Browne, Oulart. Recipes for Success has two elements: (1) A ‘hands-on’ kitchen-based cookery workshop which is exclusive to Phase three Healthy Clubs and (2) ‘Recipes for Success’ tool-kit which is filled with tasty, healthy and performanc­e-enhancing recipes that are easy to make. UNDERAGE GAA

CFR TRAINING

The Oulart-The Ballagh Unit of Community First Responders is live, seven nights a week and all day at weekends, assisting the National Ambulance Service, on a totally voluntary basis. GAA TALENT COMPETITIO­N

The winner of the final of the GAA Talent Competitio­n ‘Oulart-The Ballagh’s Got Talent’ that was held in the Sawdust, The Ballagh, on Saturday, January 26, was Laura Kelly and the runner-up was Rachel O’Leary.

COLLEGES CAMOGIE VICTORY

Well done to Coláiste Bríde, Enniscorth­y under-16 camogie on their victory in the Junior B Leinster Final versus Castlecome­r recently. Oulart-The Ballagh players involved were Siobhán Sinnott, Miria O’Dowd and Sarah Walsh while the substitute­s included Cora Redmond, Niamh Larkin – Cooney and Bronagh Kenny. Joint managers were Marie-Therese Barron and Nicholas Cullen. The team will play the Munster champions in the all-Ireland semi-final.
