ST CORMAC’S NEWS

A depleted under-16 team travelled to Rosslare Strand on Saturday, January 26. With only 12 players, they were 0-2 behind at the break but bounced back to level the score by the end. Fionn Walsh blasted a brilliant shot to the net shortly after the restart and within five minutes Dylan Brady found the corner with an impressive shot from the wing. Rosslare went 3-2 ahead but Fionn once again found the net with a cracking shot.

The ladies’ team continued their impressive season on Sunday the 27th. beating Ajax by 4-0. The multi-talented Anais Curran scored a hat-trick while Lorraine O’Connor got the last. This team has only one more league game left in a brilliant season.

The Men’s ‘B’ team, hosting Ferns ‘A’ in a cup clash, were unlucky to lose by 1-2. The visitors were 0-1 up at the break, having scored inside the first 10 munutes. Seán Walshe brought our lads level with a great header late in the game. But later still, Ferns found a winner and progress to the next round.

The ‘A’ Men’s team were away to Campile and shared the spoils, coming from 0-3 down to draw the game 4-4. Second half goals from Mick Sweeney, Johnny Fitzgerald and two from Mark Walsh put them 4-3 ahead with less than 10 minutes remaining, having trailed by 0-3 at the break. But inside the last 60 seconds, Campile scored to draw level and divide the spoils.

GAA NEWS

The GAA club’s ‘Biggest Loser’ fundraiser is under way and the walking track is lit every night to encourage everyone to get out walking and running. There is organised group walking each Monday, Wednesday and Friday night at 7 p.m.

The club section of the National Club Draw took place on Sunday the 27th and the winners were as follows. First prize, a trailer of wood was won by John Stafford; second prize, 12 month Gym membership was won by Jimmy ‘Shugs’ Gahan; third prize, a hamper went to Morgan Gahan; fourth prize, six months Gym membership was won by Adam and Simon Power; fifth prize, another hamper, was won by Emily Dunbar; sixth prize, a voucher for the Monageer Tavern, was by Martina O’Reilly; seventh prize, another voucher for the Monageer Tavern, was won by Colin Hawkins; eight prize, a club voucher was won by Aidan Finn; ninth prize, three months’ Gym membership was won by David Mernagh and the final prize, two bottles of wine, went to Molly and Liam Cooper.

ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

There will be a St Patrick’s Day parade in the Harrow on Sunday, March 17, commencing at 1 p.m. As well as a Grand Marshall to view the parade, St Patrick and Fr Murphy will make an appearance. It is hoped that as many local groups as possible will take part and everyone is invited to join in. This should prove to be a great family day out. MINISTERS OF THE WORD

Éinín Rossiter is reading at the 8 p.m. Vigil Mass on Saturday, February 9, while Caroline Farrington is the Eucharisti­c Minister on duty. On Sunday morning at the 11 a.m. Mass, Leila Breen is the Minister of the Word on duty and Kathleen Kehoe will help distribute Holy Communion.

CLOTHES COLLECTION

Monageer-Boolavogue GAA Club is continuing to collect used clothes for recycling, to raise much needed funds for the club. They welcome all donations of unwanted clothes, paired shoes, hats, scarves, handbags, curtains, clean towels, duvet covers, pillow cases and clean bed linen. However, they don’t want duvets or cushions at all, please. All donations can be left into the old GAA complex in Monageer from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. till 4.30 p.m.
