GOREY BUSINESS WHICH HAS BEEN TRADING SINCE 2013 CLOSES UNEXPECTEDLY

- By SARA GAHAN

Cash n Carry Direct Gorey unexpectedly stopped trading last week and a provisional liquidator has been appointed.

Opened in 2013 by Sean Bourke and John Swan, the independent chain was locked up and in darkness on Tuesday morning last. A notice in the window read ‘this store has now closed for business’ and ‘by order of Ms Justice Reynolds of the High Court, Mr John Healy of Kirby Healy Charted Accountants was appointed provisional liquidator’ on Tuesday, February 5.

Speaking to this newspaper, Mr Healy confirmed his appointment and said his role is to sell as much assets, while also looking for a buyer for the business to try and save jobs.

‘We will be holding a closing down liquidation sale in the next two weeks, so existing customers will have one final opportunity to grab a bargain,’ said Mr Healy.

Cash n Carry Direct Ltd also operated shops in Tullamore, County Offaly, and Carlow, but it was announced last week that Cash n Carry Direct in Tullamore has also closed its doors for business. The Cash n Carry Direct in Carlow seized business in 2016.

Mr Healy confirmed he also closed the Cash n Carry Direct in Tullamore.
