FORTH Celtic 2, Seaview United 0: The first clash of two of the premier challengers saw Forth Celtic overcome Seaview United 2-0 in a Premier One Shield game that came with a heavy price as they finished with eight players due to injuries.

The game was competitive from the start and it is obvious that both sides will be in the hunt for honours at season’s end.

The home side came out on top courtesy of goals from Lynn Marie Grant and Aleisha Cullen.

Seaview were well in the game but just did not take their opportunities when they came.

Accidental clashes saw Lynn Marie Grant and Sarah Siggins end up in hospital with injuries, and all involved in the game wish them a speedy recovery.

Bree United 2, Ferns United 7: Holders Ferns got their season off to a flying start when they travelled to Bree and came away 7-2 winners, although the game was closer than the scoreline suggests.

Aoife Devereux scored four while Hayley Nolan added two, and Aoibheann Myers also got her name on the scoresheet.

Ciara McKelvie and Niamh Sinnott scored for a home side who worked hard for the full 90 minutes.

Bunclody AFC 0, Kiltealy Celtic 3: The league’s newest club, Kiltealy Celtic, made the short journey to Bunclody and opened their divisional shield campaign with a 3-0 win against a young home side.

Ciara Roban scored two, with Orlaith Kehoe also finding the net in a game where the visitors’ sharpness in front of goal proved the main difference between the sides.

St. Cormac’s 1, Ajax Athletic 1: These two sides played out an exciting 1-1 draw, a result that keeps them both in contention for a place in the quarter-final of the shield.

The experienced Noelle Jordan was on target for the home side, while Ciara Tobin scored for Ajax.

New Ross Town 5, Shelburne United 1: Last year’s beaten finalists got their shield campaign off to a winning start when proving too strong for Shelburne and running out 5-1 winners.

Becca Foley was on target for the visitors, but a Marcella Cullen hat-trick and two goals from Aoibh Thomas gave Town victory.

Fastnet Rovers 3, Wexford Bohs 2: The home side made it two wins from two games and booked their place in the last eight of the divisional shield with this odd goal in five win over Wexford Bohs.

Twin sisters Diane and Denise Leniston were on target for Bohs, but goals from Joanne Jordan, Shirley O’Neill and Kathlynn Gabbett gave Fastnet the vital win.
