Emphasis on accessibility and sustainability this year
SUSTAINABILITY and accessibility... no, not two of the acts onstage in the Spiegeltent this year, but two key areas where the organisers have upped their game to make this year’s festival better than ever.
The Spiegeltent is now 100% wheelchair accessible and the festival also caters for touch tours and site visits prior to shows should they be required.
Also this year, a T-Coil Loop Induction system has been installed throughout the Spiegeltent to aid those with hearing loss or limitations.
The hearing loop works by providing a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by a hearing aid when it is set to ‘T’ (Telecoil) setting. This loop consists of a microphone and an amplifier which processes the sound, which is then sent through the loop cable. The loop cable is a wire placed around the perimeter of the tent that acts as an antenna to radiate the signal to those with hearing aids.
To further enhance accessibility, a custom made accessible toilet has been installed onsite.
The Spiegeltent Festival is also a more sustainable environment in 2019.
When and where possible, the organisers are reducing the amount of single use plastics as well as implementing stricter waste management systems; including clearly marked cigarette disposal units.
As there is no compostable alternative for cocktail glasses, several recycle points have been installed for any plastic glasses.
Other green initiatives include utilising organic certified cottons and products when purchasing festival and event gear; no harmful chemicals in the ‘posh-loos’ on site and an event vehicle is certified hybrid.
The 2019 festival is also promoting the utilisation of public transport and carpooling in order to reduce our carbon footprint.
‘We would also love if all our guests got involved in our initiative by becoming more aware of the unnecessary waste generated at events, and making a note of the appropriate disposal units provided,’ said a Spiegeltent Festival spokesperson.
‘Every small step makes a big difference and we encourage everyone to get involved.’
