GAA NOTES

Fixtures: Massive game Saturday. Our under-20 hurlers play in the PREMIER hurling championship semi-final. The under-15 footballers play Sunday morning at 11 at home in the Roinn two quarter final against St Joseph’s.

Our Intermediate Hurling team unfortunately fell at the quarter final stage in this year’s championship losing to HWH Bunclody. It’s been a positive year though with massive strides made with the team winning three games. The team is quite young so plenty to look forward to next year.

The under-15 hurlers drew with Davidstown-Courtnacuddy in an epic playoff game. The lads go off to a strong start and were lading 2-2 to 0-3 after 13 minors with goals from Ciaran Byrne and Jimmy Whelan. Davidstown struck back immediately goaling and then pointed a minute later to leave just a point between the sides with 16 gone. Ciaran Jimmy and Aidan put us back up by three before a free on the stroke of half time left just two between the sides. Davidstown though came out the second period stronger and were leading with nine minutes of the clock elapsed with our lads struggling to get the ball past the half way line. Things got even better for them when Barry pulled off a great save in the goal only for a Davidstown man to tap in the resulting rebound. The hit a free to lead by four. We needed something special to get us going and when Jimmy Whelan bet his man and soloed in towards goal he managed to flick to the net to leave us behind by just one. Ciaran brought it back to one but they scored four points in a row to leave our lads with a mountain to clime going into added time.

Luckily though Ciaran got a free, he shot for goal and it was blocked but Ciaran Byrne was on hand to finish. We needed to win the next puc out which we did and the ball was fed to Jimmy Whelan, who under alot of pressure managed to point. Still though there was to be more drama, we won the next puc out again and the ball was dropped in but was flicked out for a 65. Ciaran had an excellent chance from the 65 but unfortunately just fell short to leave the game level.

Scorers: Jimmy Whelan 2-2, Ciaran Cash 1-6 (0-4 free), Ciaran Byrne 2-0, Aidan Malanowski 0-1
