Gerard Murphy memorial car show is a fantastic success
THE organisers of the Gerard Murphy memorial vintage and classic car show in Enniscorthy have described the event as an ‘overwhelming success’.
Speaking to this newspaper about the event, organiser Pat Murphy said everyone involved was delighted with how the show went.
There were car enthusiasts from all over the country in attendance with some travelling from as far away as Donegal to join in the fun.
‘We were overwhelmed by the support from the general public and also from the car owners,’ said Pat.
In addition to cars the show also attracted classic bike, truck and tractor owners.
When the vehicles were lead out on their road run from the Wexford Mart grounds in Enniscorthy there were crowds of people lining the road down as far as the roundabout to cheer them on.
The convoy was led by Ballindaggin Pipe Band.
The show acknowledged the anniversary of the Ford Capri, of which around 93 examples were present, and the Mini.
‘We had around 40 minis there,’ said Pat.
There were over 850 vehicles in total making it one of the biggest automotive shows this year, anywhere in the country.
‘There weather was very good too and that definitely helped,’ said Pat.
The show also provided the opportunity for the organisers to present cheques worth €5,550 to two very worthy charities: Slaney Search and Rescue and also a community support initiative in Co Limerick called the Hub.
‘We have donated to them for the last three or four years now,’ said Pat.
‘They do good work and it’s in a rural area.’
He thanked everyone who helped organise this year’s event and the people who helped ensure that it was a great success for both the participants showcasing their vehicles and the general public who showed up in large numbers to view them.
