COURTOWN ON THE AGENDA AT LOCAL COUNCIL MEETING
TODAY (Tuesday, October 15) the monthly meeting of Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District will be held in The Taravie Hotel, Courtown, as part of a new initiative which will see councillors visit local communities within the new boundary settings.
On the agenda for today’s meeting is the development of the Burrow Road, new bye laws for Courtown, the project plan for breakwaters and the marina at Courtown, completion of the Gorey to Courtown Footpath (including preliminary bridge drawings) as well as proposals on engaging with young people.
Councillors will also hear a presentation from local business owner Tom O’Loughlin on proposed development in Courtown during the meeting, and will meet with Courtown Community Council after the meeting.
At a recent AGM, Courtown Community Council presented its vision for a five year plan for the area.
Secretary for the council said at the time that the group needed councillors to sit down and listen to them.
District Manager Michael Drea said that the only reason that Courtown is the first place to be visited during the new term is that there are some Courtown issues specifically on today’s agenda.
‘It’s a very large district and the plan is to bring the meetings out into the districts to try and engage with the public in the various villages across the district.
‘It’ll achieve awareness, hopefully buying the community in to what we’re trying to do in district. Ultimately services should be delivered at the most local level possible, this is something I’d like to try and do within Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District,’ he said.
