Two on show in Kelly’s
KELLY’S Resort Hotel in Rosslare which is permanent home to a beautiful collection of contemporary Irish art, is hosting Festival Opera exhibitions of new works by the artist Caroline Ward of Wexford and award-winning sculptor, Michael Quane of County Cork.
This is Ward’s second solo exhibition of still-life paintings at Kelly’s where she was the featured artist in 2017 in a sell-out show.
A regular at the annual Royal Hibernian Academy exhibitiion, the artist has become synonomous with a painstaking dedication to still life and her work is in collections in Ireland and abroad.
She brings a unique perception to her paintings and is fastidious in her attention to detail, explaining that each still life comes from quiet observation and a curiosity in finding the essence of a moment but to succeed, it must almost banish from the mind, the many, many hours invested in its completion.
For her is it all about trying to capture and understand the excitement of the first moment of seeing the image.
‘Painting is meditation that quiets the mind as I make the image come alive. In painting, there are no limitations, the only limitation is yourself ’, she said.
Michael Quane, a graduate of the Crawford College of Art and Design, has exhibited widely throughout Ireland and the UK and has had his work shown at Art Fairs in London, Gent, Paris, Basle and Los Angeles.
Quane has been awarded public and private commissions in Ireland and in Switzerland. His works are held in numerous public collections at home and abroad and in private collections in Ireland, the UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, France and Austria.
A full member of the Royal Hibernian Academy since 2004, he is preparing for forthcoming solo exhibitions in The Lavit in Cork in 2020 and in Shanghai, China in 2021.
The exhibitions will be on public view in Kelly’s Hotel from Wednesday, October 17 to November 3. Square Dark Chocolate by Caroline Ward. Sculpture by Michael Quane.
