The art of healing in Wexford General Hospital exhibition
WEXFORD Campus School of Art and Design at IT Carlow is continuing its collaboration with Wexford General Hospital in an exhibition by first year honours degree students.
Artworks by art and visual communications students are displayed in a new corridor in the Slaney Ward day surgery unit, other areas of the hospital and the gardens outside.
The collaboration between the art school and hospital was initiated a number of years ago by the community development department of Tusla Child and Family Agency, Wexford.
The artworks use various processes and techniques to examine the emotions people experience in a hospital environment and the physical symptoms that may be associated with these emotions.
They explore the ways in which art and other forms of healing, both modern and ancient, can make a difference to our wellbeing.
The students experimented with various ways of visually depicting how animals, nature, the planets and stars, flowers and herbal remedies may help to promote healing.
Wexford Campus School of Art and Design (IT Carlow) delivers art and design education for students in County Wexford and the South East.
Degree courses are offered at BA and BA Honours levels in Art and Visual Communications and Design.
The 1st Year Art and Visual Communications course is based in the centre of the town, in the former County Council Buildings in Hill Street.
The courses are run by staff who are active in art and design practice themselves, including public art.
