Family forced out after home struck by car

A LOCAL FAMILY were forced to leave their home at Pairc na Craobhai, Gorey, after the front of the house was significantly damaged when a car crashed into it in the early hours of Friday last, May 22.
The Wexford County Council owned property has since been secured and the council will spend a number of days estimating the cost of the damage.
A man in his forties was arrested and questioned following the incident but he was later released with a file being prepared for the DPP.
A LOCAL FAMILY has been forced to leave their home after it was struck by a car last week.
The front of the house at Pairc na Craobhai, Gorey, was significantly damaged when a car struck the exterior during the early hours of Friday last, May 22.
Gardaí, who are investigating criminal damage in relation to the incident, arrived on the scene just after midnight on the night in question to find a significant amount of damage done to the front of the house.
Following the incident, the property, which is rented out by Wexford County Council, was secured by council staff.
‘The property, which is rented to a family from the local area, suffered significant damage following an incident where it was struck by a car,’ a council spokesperson said.
‘The tenants are currently staying with friends locally pending a full assessment of the damage and completion of the necessary repairs.’
The spokesperson said that it is likely to take a number of days to assess the extent of the damage and to determine the estimated cost of repair, but the property itself has been secured to make it safe ending a full assessment of the incident.
Meanwhile, a man aged in his forties was subsequently arrested and questioned by gardaí at Enniscorthy Garda Station in relation to the incident but was later released with a file prepared for the DPP. Investigations continue and the case is being treated as criminal damage.
