Brothers facing rape charge further remanded in custody
A PAIR of juvenile brothers were back before the District Court sitting in Wexford charged with raping a 17-year-old girl in Courtown last summer.
The two were produced before Judge Brian O’Shea after spending a week on remand at the Oberstown detention centre in North County Dublin.
The 17 and 15-year-old siblings, who are not from County Wexford, were both represented by Gorey-based solicitor Lana Doherty.
The rape charges initiated by Gardaí Gavin Tracy and Jacinta Gordon dated back to an incident at The Burrow in July of last year.
When the matter was first brought to court, it was indicated by the prosecution that the girl encountered five males on the night in question.
It was further alleged that she was held down and that she was then raped by both accused.
On their second appearance at the courthouse in Belvedere Road, the defendants offered no objection to a remand in custody until June 6, to allow time for preparation of the book of evidence in the case.
Sergeant Gary Rayner indicated that this process was likely to take three weeks.
The judge refused an application from Ms Doherty to have the matter marked peremptory.
