Eagles’ 24-hour relay in memory of Billy

-

PREPARATIONS are well under way for the Billy Anderson 24-hour relay which will see the Wexford Eagles American Football squad complete a trial and test of strength around Gorey tomorrow (Wednesday, June 3).

In line with social distancing measures, individually they will be wearing their full black and yellow kit, and the aim of the event is to mark the late Billy Anderson’s birthday in his memory.

Already close to €1,000 has been raised, and all of the money collected from this event will be placed in a trust fund for Billy’s son, Finley.

The fun loving Billy is remembered fondly at the club for his laugh, smile and huge presence.

An Eagle Forever, there is now a trophy kept in Billy’s memory.

Billy, who passed away suddenly on May 26 last year in a road traffic accident, is remembered fondly across Gorey and further afield within the Irish American Football and comedy club scene.

Born in South Carolina, USA, when Billy moved to Ireland he brought his love for his sport and humour with him.

Billy believed that he was on earth to serve a purpose and make the most of his life, and he is remembered for doing as much as he possibly could with the time he had.

The team hope that this event will be testimony to his legacy.

Billy is survived by his son Finley, his partner Janette, parents, siblings, extended family and friends.
