Town team to discuss ideas for re-opening
FIONA LEWIS CEO of County Wexford Chamber is looking forward to an open discussion about what Gorey businesses need in order re-open, as preparations continue for a town team meeting on Zoom tomorrow (Wednesday) morning.
She said that there has been a lot of engagement from all sides so far, and that there will be direct diaglogue going forward between the Chamber and stakeholders.
‘The business community is completely engaged on this matter and there is a real sense of collaboration, with traders, retailers, café and restaurant owners all working together to put forward the best suggestions for what would encourage footfall back into the town,’ she said.
‘The biggest challenge is to address customer concerns about the health risks associated with shopping and socialising in towns. This consultation process is expected to raise suggestions about allowing cafes and other interested businesses to trade on the footpath, thus easing social distancing restrictions in their premises.
‘It is also expected that the need to walk in one direction only on the footpaths will be raised. The members with whom I have engaged so far are all acutely aware of the need to interact with consumers in a different way post Covid-19. They understand that in order to restore confidence in our town, we need to adapt to the mood of our customers and indeed the nation, to work with our customers and our partners to find solutions which ensure a positive outcome for everyone impacted’.
There is still time to register for the town team meeting, which takes place tomorrow at 11 a.m. Email info@wexfordchamber.ie for further details.
