Online gym classes raise €1,000 for St Aidan’s Services

-

has been just over four years since Gorey woman Shelley Atkins took on the challenge of climbing Mount Everest in aid of St Aidan’s Services, raising a total of €9,000.

She decided to round it off by collecting a full €10,000 when she recently raised €1,000 through online fitness classes with her company Diversefit.com during the lockdown.

Shelly, who works on the frontline as a psychiatric nurse, decided to teach every gym class free for the past three months to collect this money and donate it all to St Aidan’s. She said she was delighted by the fantastic community spirit she experienced along the way.

‘The goal at the start was to raise €500 and it is an amazing feeling to say we all raised a massive €10,000 to date. I know this €1,000 will go a long way to the service users in St Aidan’s, so thank you again to everyone who helped me. It was open to anybody, not just out regulars,’ she said.

Shelley facilitated the workout classes online through Zoom, and collected donations along the way so that everyone could contribute.

More than 40 people took part and made a difference in their own way.

Shelley said that St Aidan’s Services holds a special place in her heart and that it was important to focus on both mental and physical health during the Covid-19 pandemic, something she feels will have an impact on both.

Private classes continue with Diversefit but now that the target has been reached, Shelley was delighted to finish it off by handing over the cheque to CEO of St Aidan’s, Eimear Mannion.
