Man critical after shooting
A MIDDLE aged man remains in a critical condition in Beaumont Hospital following the release of a firearm in the Courtown area last week.
The alarm was raised at about 10.30 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, and soon after, an ambulance brought the man from his home to Riverchapel Community Field.
Assisted by the Courtown Arklow Coast Guard under the direction of Chairperson David Swinburne, the Rescue 117 helicopter took the man to Beaumont Hospital where he is recovering from what Mr Swimburne described as ‘very life changing’ injuries.
The man suffered life-altering injuries as a result of the incident, in what Gardaí have described as a personal tragedy.
Sergeant Stephen Ennis of Gorey Garda Station confirmed that as part of the investigation, gardaí found that the firearm was legally held.
It is understood that the man is not originally from the area.

There, about 45 minutes later, Chairperson of the Courtown Arklow Coast Guard David Swinburne and his team undertook an urgent medevac transfer from the ambulance. A landing site was prepared by the team for the Rescue 117 helicopter for an urgent transfer of the man to Beaumont hospital.
Speaking to Mr Swinburne after the event, he described the man’s injuries as ‘very life changing’.
