Boat is recovered by emergency services

-

COURTOWN RNLI, Cahore Inshore Rescue and Courtown/Arklow Coast Guard were tasked on Sunday afternoon to assist a speedboat that lost power soon after launch and washed up onto rocks off Glascarrig beach, one mile north of Cahore pier.

The incident involved three adults who managed to get to shore safely, but Helmsman David Kavanagh and crew Donal Mcgrath and Noel Ward began the mission at 3.45 p.m., coming to their aid.

Arriving on the scene within five minutes, the crew found that recovery of the boat itself was proving challenging due to choppy sea conditions.

A tow line was secured to the vessel and with considerable local help and onshore help from crew members Tom O’Connor, Conor Burke and Edward Connolly, the vessel was returned to sea and brought back to Cahore pier.

This wouldn’t have been possible without the assistance of the Coast Guard and lifeboat, helmed by Peter Browne with crew members Fergus Slevin.

Launched at 4 p.m., the lifeboat made its way to the scene to assist with towing the boat back to the slipway in Cahore.

Speaking following the call out, Operations Manager at Courtown RNLI Sam Kennedy said: ‘It was great to see the crew respond so readily whilst adhering to all guidelines currently in place. Well done to all services involved’.

Courtown/Arklow Coast Guard Unit responded to two incidents on the day, but noted that no medical assistance was required for the three adults involved in this.

Cahore Inshore Rescue advised that those operating pleasure boats always carry a form of communication, VHF radio, life jackets and flares, and call 112 immediately if in danger.

To members of public, they ask that if you see someone in difficulty on or near the water dial 999/112 and ask for the Coast Guard.
