Strong line-up of Irish artists set to perform in Gorey in aid of Gaza

- By ISABEL COLLERAN

IRISH Artists For Palestine are hosting Oíche Don Gaza at the Ashdown Park Hotel on Thursday, April 4 and 100 per cent of the funds raised will go towards Médecins Sans Frontières in aid the people of Palestine.

Many of Ireland’s biggest artists will perform on the night, including Mary Black, Mary Coughlan, Pete Cummins, Ed Deane, Garvin Gallagher, Honor Heffernan, Trevor Knight, Dominic Mullan, Carole Nelson, Cormac O’Brien, Leo O’Kelly, Bill Shanley, Stephen James Smith, Johnnie Taylor and guest speakers TD Richard Boyd Barrett and Aislinn Wallace.

“We all feel helpless and you think we’re running a gig and what is that going to do for people but everything we do is important like looking at what’s in shops. If it comes from Israel, then you know you’re supporting murder and it’s as simple as that. No matter what happened on October 7, the punishment does not fit the crime.

“We can boycott Israel, we can ask our politicians to raise their voices and ask for a ceasefire and ask America to stop sending weapons. Just generally, there’s a lot of little things that we can do and people have a lot more power than the powers that be would have us think,” said Honor Heffernan who is organising the event.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the concert is set to start at 8 p.m. Tickets are €20 and available to buy on Eventbrite.

Furthermore, every Wednesday, a group of local residents from Gorey gather for a silent vigil at the Ulster Bank.

“The amount of people that have come to join us has grown and now every car that goes past is beeping at us and giving us a thumbs up. People realise now that this is not war, it certainly isn’t war when one side only has stones to throw,” said Honor.
