Tidy towns group collect a skip worth of rubbish in two days

- By ISABEL COLLERAN

THE annual Kilmuckridge Klean Up was a huge success over the weekend with volunteers collecting a full skip worth of rubbish over the two-day event.

The Kilmuckridge Klean Up is part of An Taisce National Spring Clean Campaign and they were also supported by Wexford County Council.

Kilmuckridge Tidy Towns was founded almost 50 years ago. Biodiversity and sustainability are very important aspects of what the group have done over the last few years and they’ve been involved with a number of initiatives in a bid to reduce their carbon footprint. “It’s still going strong which is of testament to the local people who have the ambition and pride in their community through the generations.”

“Tidy Towns is far more than litter picking and landscaping, it is about making our village a better place to live in while promoting inclusion, social interaction and community.

“It creates a sense of pride in that village and an appreciation for the people in our community while encouraging forward planning and thinking,” said PRO for Kilmuckridge Tidy Towns, Aideen Hayes.

Kilmuckridge Tidy Towns have been working with an ecologist in the last year to help and guide them going forward. Furthermore, their annual clothes swap which took place in October, 2023 was a huge success.

The group liaises with their local secondary school, Coláiste an Átha whose transition year students have their own Tidy Towns committee.

Coláiste an Átha has a very active community garden which is open to all members of the community and they invite all members of the community to join them for their weekly meet-ups under the guidance of a horticulturist.

Kilmuckridge Tidy Towns are always looking for new volunteers and encourage anyone interested in getting involved to get in touch.
