Our open mid-week singles competitions saw the opening of our new greens complex on holes four and five. These will enhance the quality of our course, and comments received from members and visitors alike were fulsome in praise for the new lay-out.

It was an extremely busy weekend in the club, with the first of our monthly medal competitions being played along with four our teams playing in inter-club matches.

Sunday saw a large field facing the starter. Mixed weather greeted the players on Saturday morning and whilst there were calm conditions the rain was a bit of a spoilsport, contrasting with a sunny and blustery Sunday.

The course was in very good condition thanks to P.J. and his staff – well done lads.

Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28, monthly medal: 1, Denis Hayes (9), 67; 2, Trevor Moulton (15), 69 (last nine); gross, Graham Donohoe (+4), 70; 3, Mel Archer (18), 69; 4, Patrick Fitzpatrick (14), 70 (last nine).

Next weekend the monthly medal is sponsored by Turfcare, and on Monday, May 6 an open four-person team event will take place.

Our men’s Junior Cup team played Courtown in the first round of the AIG Junior Cup on Saturday. This was a very tight affair against a strong team, and in the end Enniscorthy prevailed by 3/2.

Well done to the players and team manager Frankie. Next round is a home draw versus Callan.

Courtown, however, gained revenge on Sunday when their Leinster Men’s Trophy team defeated Enniscorthy 5/2.

Our Pierce Purcell team also tasted defeat losing 2.5/1.5 to Castlecomer. Thanks to the managers and players for their commitment, and better luck next year boys.
