Bad weather no deterrent as Robbie Be Slick wins

- GREYHOUND RACING

THERE WAS a huge crowd in attendance at Enniscorthy greyhound stadium on Thursday for the Monageer family race night, but unfortunately the weather did not play ball with a combination of rain and lightning holding up racing for over an hour while the younger fans enjoyed splashing about in the puddles.

When racing eventually did get under way, the first saw Robbie Be Slick complete a four-timer.

He showed the better early pace from his trap six draw to lead by the opening bends before opening up a good advantage down the back.

It looked like he was going to win easily but trap one runner Elite Shakira put in a strong run from the third bend home and closed Robbie down to three-quarters of a length by the line. There was a fast winning time of 28.75.

Race three saw a good battle between trap three runner Me Gotthepower and trap four’s Vici Tana to the opening bends before Me Gotthepower took control to open up a nice advantage down the back.

Running a nice tight last bend, the leader saw off the renewed challenge of Vici by a length in a good 28.86. The last two races of the night were abandoned due to the persistent bad weather.

Monday night featured the two semi-finals of the April Unraced Stake, with both won in sub 29-second times.

Race one, the first semi, saw favourite Johnny’s Dilemma maintain his unbeaten record, making it three wins in a row when showing good early pace to lead before running out a snug three-length victor from Roanna Model in a good 28.88.

The second semi saw Ballybreenautumn follow up the previous week’s fine win with a dominant display after breaking fast from her trap three box to lead.

And while the runner-up, Hadfield Darling, tried hard to make a race of it, Ballybreen kept up the strong gallop all the way to the line to score by five and a half lengths in a fast 28.65.

Race seven saw the widest margin winner of the week as trap three runner Hillbilly Dixie took control at the opening bends to lead down the back before racing home strongly to score by nine and a half lengths in a good 29.08.
