3 Arena, Dublin, November 15 The synth-pop overlords return to Dublin’s 3Arena only weeks after it was announced that they are to be inducted into the Rock And
Roll Hall of Fame next year. Kicking off the UK and Irish leg of the
Global Spirit tour, this show marks the first time Depeche Mode have performed on these shores since 2013. That show found the Essex legends in peak form and was described by bassist Andrew Fletcher as “absolutely fantastic”.
It was a gig which saw the Mode drawing on material from all stages of their glittering career, with classic anthems like ‘Enjoy The Silence’ and ‘Never Let Me Down’ being as rapturously received as ever. Dave Gahan and the boys are currently promoting their acclaimed 14th album, Spirit. Released back in March, the record was described by HP as “a trip to the past well worth taking”. This show is a must for lovers of vintage synth sounds, and equally, those who hold any contempt for alt-right figures such as Richard Spencer; the American Neo-Nazi was recently slammed by Gahan for attempting to associate the band with the movement.
Depeche Mode are joined by Re-TROS, an underground rock group from Nanjing, China who’ve received much praise for their latest record, Before The Applause, and whose sound has been described as the “soundtrack of ‘80s car chases at 200mph”.
