That’s exactly what you’ll be doing this festive season courtesty of The Shadow Shakers’ brilliant new Xmas song.

- By Roisin Dwyer

A Christmas tune infused with rockabilly, jump blues, jungle and swing you say? Why, yes indeed. Let me introduce your new favourite festive song – the swoonsome ditty is called ‘Christmas Eve’ and comes courtesy of The Shadow Shakers (rockabilly trio Skinny Elvis with sultry songstress Miss Truly DiVine). Boasting sassy melodic vocals, thumping double bass, twangy guitar and hopping drums, it’s the perfect yuletide soundtrack. Do check it out! The song is a taster for a full length outing from the combo due next year.

Never fear, Skinny Elvis will still be operating as usual with a rake of shows lined up over the coming weeks and also an album in the pipeline too!…

One of the finest Irish albums of the year landed last month, and comes coutesy of Leitrim’s Ailie Blunnie. West To The Evening Sun was four years in the making and is a tour de force of masterful songwriting, which pushes the boundaries both sonically and lyrically.

Ailie set out her stall in 2013 with her debut EP On Love…And Other Murder Mysteries. One of the tracks, ‘How Much Do You Love Me?’, won the UK International Songwriting Competition in the Love Songs category in 2014. In 2015, one of her compositions was included on the Samaritans CD Don’t Be Afraid Of The Light That Shines Within You.

Given the paludits heaped on the current release, we can expect to hear much more from Ms Blunnie in 2018…..

Also very much on the rise are electronic duo Le Boom, who have just unveiled their second single ‘Don’t Need It Now’. The outfit, which comprises Christy Leech and Aimie Mallon, released debut single ‘What We Do’ just last August. The track racked up a hugely impressive 230,000 Spotify plays. Explosive performances at Body & Soul, Electric Picnic, Latitude, Hard Working Class Heroes, Castlepalooza, Sea Sessions and Indiependence have also seen their stock soar…..

Cork’s The Grunts release their new single ‘Heal Your Heart’ on December 8 and will play a headline show in Fibber Magees, Dublin on December 17 to mark the occasion.

The act, who have been together for ten years, have seven EPs and two albums

(the acclaimed Reflections In My Mirror

Shade and Cult Before Country) under their belt. The title track from the latter release featured on the global release of Orion / Maurice Carroll’s production Dead Along The Way……

Meanwhile up north, Saffyre just unleashed their hotly-anticipated new single ‘Survive’. The song was recorded by USA-born producer Tre Sheppard in his home studio in Northern Ireland, and also in the newly launched state-of-the-art BlueStone Recording in Co Down. The three sisters grew up in a music-loving household and blend a diverse range of influences into an intoxicating pop/folk brew. We look forward to live dates soon! …
