Marcel Dettman is Coming to Town
There won’t be many silent nights around Ireland this Xmas as the festive clubbing season kicks into gear. By Will Kinsella
This year has been another strong one for the Irish clubbing circuit, and there is more still to come before the New Year is out. Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann is doing an All Night Long DJ set at District 8 on December 8, while on December 9, the amazing Paranoid London return to Pygmalion. Elsewhere on the same night, John Talabot performs at District 8.
On December 11, Alan Fitzpatrick begins an Irish tour, starting off at Library in Limerick. December 14 sees him play the Electric Garden and Theatre in Galway, before he moves on to District 8 on the 16th.
Notably, December 15 marks the beginning of one of the busiest clubbing weekends of the year in Dublin: Pygmalion host Panorama Bar resident 5VGHƂ; Krystal Klear celebrates his 30th birthday with Jackmaster and Skream at District 8; and Bontan & Elliot Adamson perform at Index.
Also on December 15, there’s something a little different going on at DLight Studios. Zehr Gut in association with DLight
Studios Dublin & Homebeat present A//B q a thrilling crosscity finale to a twoyear series. Done in collaboration with GoetheInstitut Ireland, it has brought some amazing German talent to these shores.
In this two-part conclusion, Zehr Gut A present a showcase of live electronica, featuring the singular talent of Giegling’s Leafar Legov and Dublin’s own r.kitt. Zehr Gut B, meanwhile, takes place at Wigwam, with a rare hometown DJ set from the Berlin-based Neil Flynn (Lossless).
On December 16, disco innovator and clubbing legend Greg Wilson debuts at Pygmalion. Wilson, a seasoned vinyl selector, is credited with revolutionising the disco re-edit movement of the ’80s.
His music is still as relevant as ever, with a new generation of fans captivated by his unpretentious approach to DJing.
Over in the west, Patrick Topping hits Carbon Nightclub in Galway on December 20. In a short space of time, Topping has ascended to the top tier of dance music. Part of the new wave of electronic music producers coming from the north of England, he is a pioneering force for a generation of upcoming artists, reflected by his high ranking in RA and Mixmag DJ polls.
Moving on to December 22, Lab Works bring Sunil Sharpe to Danny Byrnes in Mullingar, while the following night sees Sunil performing a six-hour set in District 8. Sharpe has had another incredible year, featuring at clubs such as Tresor, Rex Club and riessmuehle. is last fiÛehour show was met with rave reviews, so expect something special on the 23rd.
The same night, Basement Project host Dublin techno veteran Jon Hussey at the Cellar in Galway, with support from local act Noid the Droid. In the period between Xmas and the New Year, highlights include Ejeca at District 8 on the 26th; house legend Paul Johnson at Pymagalion on the 27th; and Ben Klock at District 8 on the same night. Elsewhere, Pan Pot performs at District 8 on the 29th, while across town, Young Marco will deliver an All Night Long set with UFO Club and Bodytonic at Wig Wam. The following night, meanwhile, sees RePublik host Mano Le Tough at Project Nightclub.
Moving on to New Year’s Eve, DJ
Deece performs at District 8, and over on South William Street, Red Bull Music Academy and Pygmalion are joining forces at the Powerscourt Centre. They’re bringing Space Terrace legend, Paul Woolford, and Fuse London founder, Enzo Siragusa, to one of Dublin’s most iconic venues.
Overall, it’s been a great year for Irish clubbing, and we have to give a special mention to District 8 and Pygmalion, who both have a jam-packed December programme. Both venues are well and truly pushing the boat out.
Enjoy the festive clubbing season!
