Sex on a full stomach is tricky. Normally it is best to wait until you are feeling less bloated, but over Christmas that doesn’t fly. What with big meals, Christmas Day leftovers, parties and endless selection boxes, most of us spend at least a week eating too much. However, it is still possible to have sex if you choose your position and your actions carefully.

Firstly, you should wait at least an hour after eating before attempting sex. You should also avoid blowjobs or doggy-style while full. However, any position where you are not putting weight on your partner’s stomach should be fine, as long as you go slowly.

Ian Kerner, psychother­apist and author of She Comes First recommends using a sideby-side position and syncing your breathing before getting going.

Straight ladies can also opt for the cowgirl or reverse cowgirl position. You need to be careful not to slide onto your partner’s stomach mid-sex. In the cowgirl position, he can hold your hips or thighs to prevent this, or your arse in the reverse cowgirl.
