KINKSTERS, BISEXUALS AND POLYS NOT OUT TO DOCTORS
If you are in a non-traditional sexual relationship, and worried about disclosing this to your doctor, you’re not alone. According to a study published earlier this year, less than half of bi or pansexual women are comfortable discussing their preferences. Another study, this one conducted with people in the BDSM community of the supposedly free-wheeling city of San Francisco, found that almost twothirds did not share this information on their sexual lifestyles with doctors. That’s despite the fact that 44 percent saw a healthcare provider for a kink-related concern. According to the research, most people choose to keep their sexual practices hidden for fear of discrimination, and the worry that consensual behaviour would be seen as intimate partner violence.
