Hot Press - - MUSIC NEWS OF THE YEAR -

January found President Michael D. Higgins joining a host of musical admirers on stage, as he presented Shane MacGowan with the National Concert Hall’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Looking pale, and confined to a wheelchair, Shane managed to perform a rousing ‘Summer In Siam’ with Nick Cave, and was joined by Bono, Johnny Depp, Cait O’Riordan, Jesse Mallin, Clem Burke, Sinéad O’Connor and Glen Hansard – and more – for a rousing encore rendition of ‘Will You Go Lassie Go’. Earlier, Bono had inserted a line from ‘Linger’ into ‘A Rainy Night In Soho’ to mark the death that day of Dolores O’Riordan. Later in the year, Shane would marry his long-term partner Victoria Clark.
