My Christmas Day

Hot Press - - The 20 Greatest Christmas Songs Ever -

Myself, my husband Richard, and my father are going to a hotel this Christmas. Since it’s only the three of us, I didn’t really see the point in putting extra pressure on myself. We’ll have breakfast, go to Mass, then sit down to open presents and go on to lunch. I have no idea what will be on the menu, but I know they give a lot of choice, which is great because my dad doesn’t go for turkey and ham – although I love the traditional stuff. I’m hoping it will be a very relaxed, easy day. I’ve been really busy over the past few months, so I’m looking forward to taking a bit of time out. I do find the day flies, and it can be stressful trying to get everything done. We take our time over our presents and we relax doing it, but sometimes when you’re rushing to go down for dinner and to call people, you find the day is already half gone.

I think phonecalls take up an awful lot of time, so I find that quite annoying. Because obviously you have to ring family and friends, and you have to ring extended family now too. Everyone is talking to everyone and it just takes ages! In terms of movies, we’ll watch Elf, Home Alone, A Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th Street – I go through the gambit of all of the movies that represent Christmas. I love Bublé and Frank Sinatra at Christmas too, and we always go to the carols at the National Concert Hall. As for preparation, the Quality Street have been bought – and opened. We’ve bought in our wine. Our two trees are up, our cheeses earmarked, and I have a present bought for Richard. Every year I always say I don’t need anything, because how do you top getting an engagement ring right before Christmas?

Lisa hosts Box Office each Friday at 9pm on Virgin Media Two.
