2. KILMAINHAM GAOL
Another famous Dublin building that has been transformed into a museum is Kilmainham Gaol, one of the most important locations of the 1916 Rising. The former prison is one of the largest unoccupied gaols in Europe, covering some of the most heroic and tragic events in Ireland’s history.
Stepping back into history, the guides will share some hair-raising, heart-breaking and inspirational stories as you walk through this dramatic and imposing building – and through more than a hundred years of struggle and sacrifice. By the end you’ll be enlightened, enthralled and – thankfully – allowed to leave.
Entrance is by guided tour only and advance booking is recommended: kilmainhamgaolmuseum.ie
