THE POWERSCOURT DISTILLERY& VISITOR CENTRE: A PARADISE FOR WHISKEY LOVERS

-

In June 2018, Powerscourt Distillery began producing new spirit in the Old Mill House, on Powerscourt Estate, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow. Dating back to 1730’s, this remarkable old building has now been faithfully restored and extended to accommodate both production of Irish whiskey and a Visitor Centre, where people can learn all about whiskeymaking and the unique qualities of Powerscourt Irish Whiskey. An adjacent warehouse for lling and storing casks helps to ensure a fully immersive distillery visitor experience.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Sugarloaf Mountain, and enjoying a long heritage of local craftmanship, Powerscourt itself has become one of Ireland’s most treasured and frequently-visited estates. Located within a 30-minute drive from Dublin city centre, bathed by pure Wicklow spring water, and enjoying a mild coastline climate, the feeling was that Powerscourt Estate might set the perfect stage for distilling Irish whiskey. And so it has proven.

In November 2018, the distillery launched three ne new expressions of Irish whiskey under its Fercullen brand: Fercullen 14-Year-Old Single Malt Whiskey; Fercullen 10-Year-Old Single Grain Whiskey; and Fercullen Premium

Blend Irish Whiskey. “Fercullen” is the old Irish name given to the moutainous region which ecompassed the Powerscourt Estate and its use dates back to 1300s and beyond.

These three new whiskeys have been released by awardwinning Master Distiller Noel Sweeney, whose experience – and the global recognition as a Master of Whiskey that came with it – sit more than comfortably in a place that is already renowned for attention to detail, craft and vision. Having carefully selected the aged stock used for these wonderful whiskeys, Noel also helped to design the plant at Powerscourt, where he now holds responsibility for all production of the acclaimed gold liquid.

The Powerscourt Distillery Experience is very special indeed. In addition to the marvellous scenic backdrop of Powerscourt Estate, six carefully-appointed tasting rooms have been created for the maximum comfort and enjoyment of visitors. There’s also a distillery giftshop, café/bar and adjoining maturation facilities. Powerscourt Distillery will be open for tours and tastings from late Spring 2019.
