In June 2018, Pow­er­scourt Dis­tillery be­gan pro­duc­ing new spirit in the Old Mill House, on Pow­er­scourt Es­tate, En­niskerry, Co. Wick­low. Dat­ing back to 1730’s, this re­mark­able old build­ing has now been faith­fully re­stored and ex­tended to ac­com­mo­date both pro­duc­tion of Ir­ish whiskey and a Vis­i­tor Cen­tre, where peo­ple can learn all about whiskey­mak­ing and the unique qual­i­ties of Pow­er­scourt Ir­ish Whiskey. An ad­ja­cent ware­house for lling and stor­ing casks helps to en­sure a fully im­mer­sive dis­tillery vis­i­tor ex­pe­ri­ence.

Set against the stun­ning back­drop of the Su­gar­loaf Moun­tain, and en­joy­ing a long her­itage of lo­cal craft­man­ship, Pow­er­scourt it­self has be­come one of Ire­land’s most trea­sured and fre­quently-vis­ited es­tates. Lo­cated within a 30-minute drive from Dublin city cen­tre, bathed by pure Wick­low spring wa­ter, and en­joy­ing a mild coast­line cli­mate, the feel­ing was that Pow­er­scourt Es­tate might set the per­fect stage for dis­till­ing Ir­ish whiskey. And so it has proven.

In Novem­ber 2018, the dis­tillery launched three ne new ex­pres­sions of Ir­ish whiskey un­der its Fer­cullen brand: Fer­cullen 14-Year-Old Sin­gle Malt Whiskey; Fer­cullen 10-Year-Old Sin­gle Grain Whiskey; and Fer­cullen Pre­mium

Blend Ir­ish Whiskey. “Fer­cullen” is the old Ir­ish name given to the moutain­ous re­gion which ecom­passed the Pow­er­scourt Es­tate and its use dates back to 1300s and be­yond.

These three new whiskeys have been re­leased by award­win­ning Mas­ter Dis­tiller Noel Sweeney, whose ex­pe­ri­ence – and the global recog­ni­tion as a Mas­ter of Whiskey that came with it – sit more than com­fort­ably in a place that is al­ready renowned for at­ten­tion to de­tail, craft and vi­sion. Hav­ing care­fully se­lected the aged stock used for these won­der­ful whiskeys, Noel also helped to de­sign the plant at Pow­er­scourt, where he now holds re­spon­si­bil­ity for all pro­duc­tion of the ac­claimed gold liq­uid.

The Pow­er­scourt Dis­tillery Ex­pe­ri­ence is very spe­cial in­deed. In ad­di­tion to the mar­vel­lous scenic back­drop of Pow­er­scourt Es­tate, six care­fully-ap­pointed tast­ing rooms have been cre­ated for the max­i­mum com­fort and en­joy­ment of vis­i­tors. There’s also a dis­tillery gift­shop, café/bar and ad­join­ing mat­u­ra­tion fa­cil­i­ties. Pow­er­scourt Dis­tillery will be open for tours and tast­ings from late Spring 2019.
