An award-win­ning show­case for the great lo­cal seafood fished off the coast of Kerry, the Chart House is a firm favourite of vis­i­tors to An Daingean, to give Din­gle its cor­rect Ir­ish name. This fam­ily-run restau­rant has an old­fash­ioned at­mo­spheric feel­ing that’s re­as­sur­ing and thor­oughly gen­uine. The recipes are straight­for­ward, but ex­e­cuted with fan­tas­tic ex­per­tise. An Three-Course Value Menu is avail­able for € 36.

The Ballinwill­in Or­ganic Wild Boar Belly with Seared Scal­lops, Pancetta, Polenta, Ap­ple & Cu­cum­ber Rel­ish and Blas­ket Sound Whole Lob­ster with Col­can­non & Ther­mi­dor Cream are just two of the dozen or so dishes that have an ‘L’ for lo­cal next to them on chef Martin Bealin’s all killer, no filler menu. In these calorie-obsessed times we live in, we ap­plaud his ju­di­cious use of cream, port and cognac.

A rel­a­tively new ar­rival to Tralee’s culi­nary scene, The Roast House is win­ning fans among lo­cals and hol­i­day­mak­ers with the finest cof­fee to be found in the county and a menu star­ring the best of lo­cal pro­duce. Lunch time is busy with their € 7.95 Bar­beque Pulled Pork Sand­wich with Red Cab­bage Coleslaw on Toasted Sour­dough Bread in high de­mand.
