THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
With any new skincare launch, these days I tend to consider the wastefulness of the product once it’s been used up. Thankfully, through my research, I found that most of the capsules are made from algae or similar, and are fully biodegradable. Ampoules are usually made from glass and are also recyclable.
However, it’s worth noting the potential footprint that occurs in other ways. They’re expensive, as you’ll see in the panel above, but the expense is environmental as well as financial. Mark Curry is a co-founder and co-CEO of The Inkey List, a disruptive and unique new skincare brand.
He says that at The Inkey List, as of right now, they have no plans to make their own capsule or ampoule variant: “They are a bugger to fill and seal. Plus, you then have to pack them in another pack before their case. This process is factory-, people- and packaging-heavy, hence the expense.”
