SUMMER SELF-LOVE
Back in January, we started the new year rejecting unhealthy body image and embracing self-care. All changes in attitude require constant attention – and a dash of love – to become embedded into our thinking. It can be easy to slip back into negative habits, unless we are kind to ourselves and remind ourselves of positive alternatives. So, as summer beckons, it seems the perfect time to check in and be mindful once again of our push-back against the “perfect bikini body” narrative. During June, we’ll be focusing on body positivity, self-care and self-esteem, all with a sunny, summer focus. Stay tuned on IMAGE.ie for more.
SUSTAINABILITY
The fashion industry has major sustainability problems. By 2030, it is predicted the industry’s water consumption will grow by 50 per cent to 118 billion cubic metres; its carbon footprint will increase to 2,791 million tons; and the amount of waste created will hit 148 million tons. Many brands and retailers are making significant progress in minimising their impact, but the problem is growing and has also shifted to the consumption side. Building on our Sustainability Month last year, we are focusing on sustainability and fashion this month. We’ll dive into fast fashion, champion trailblazing brands, and offer advice and tips on the small – and bigger – changes we can all make to our wardrobes.
WOMEN IN SPORT
Women’s sport has been on a journey over the past number of years. On the international stage last year, a highlight was the Ireland women’s hockey team being the first Irish team ever to reach a World Cup Final. However, there were also many more successes to note, not least the increase in attendance at women’s sports events. At IMAGE.ie, we have a track record in celebrating women’s achievements in business, and we feel it’s time we started to cheer more loudly for the women making us proud across the sporting sphere, at professional and amateur levels. To play our part in 20x20 – the all-inclusive movement to shift Ireland’s perception of women’s sport by 2020, increasing visibility, participation and attendance at women’s sports – we are looking forward to featuring the stories of women in sport across the country during summer 2019.
