The launch of the Flossie and the Beach Cleaners charity

at the National Yacht Club, Dun Laoghaire

Around 120 people gathered at the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire for the official launch of the Flossie and the Beach Cleaners charity, which aims to tackle coastal waste pollution. Twelve-year-old Dublin activist Flossie Donnelly, known for her regular beach gatherings to clear plastic waste, and her mother Harriet were delighted to see so many supporters of the new charity, which was established to develop the network of beach cleaners, educate primary school children on the importance of coastal stewardship and connect students in Ireland with those in countries where plastic pollution has reached crisis levels. The event, sponsored by Volvo Ireland, saw both cocktails and karaoke powered by cycles, a plastic bottle selfie booth, and recycled art courtesy of Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
