TIPS FOR A SCREEN-FREE SUNDAY

-

1 If at home, it’ll be difficult at first to not default to picking up a device, so head out. Plan what you’ll need for your analog outing – do you need to book tickets? Call a cab? Find a place to eat? Once you’ve experimented with a few well-planned screen-free Sundays, Barbara Putman Cramer recommends taking things to the next level: “Just go out without your phone and see what happens, without the help of Google Maps.”

2 Make your own rules: if you usually FaceTime family on Sunday, maybe still allow that. Or if it suits you to go screen-free on a Saturday, that works too. Focus on the smallest, most doable, sustainable change.

3 If a whole day is too daunting, start with an evening. “Give yourself a curfew,” says Barbara. “No screens after 9pm. At the very least, you’ll sleep better.”
