Ireland of the Welcomes

Editor’s Letter

-

It’s summer time in Ireland, which means accepting once more than an Irish summer is more a state of mind than a physical thing, especially if the weather this year is anything to go by! However, as any good Irish person will tell you, there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong shoes. And so with that in mind we’re out and about this issue, exploring the far flung corners of this gorgeous isle.

Domhnall O’Donoghue returns to the summers of his youth with a visit to Valentia, off the Kerry coast. While Leo O’Cathsaigh takes the high road through Wicklow’s Sally Gap and rediscovers a lost chieftain.

We also take a look at Sligo, as seen through the eyes of W.B Yeats, and take a jaunt to the south-east with a visit to Ardmore in Co Waterford, home to the stunning Cliff House Hotel.

Elsewhere, we continue our quest to mix the heritage of bygone Ireland with the possibility of our modern nation, and chat to the people behind two creative brands taking the world by storm. Since their launch JANDO and Green & White helped showcase our creative talent.

And while we chat about mixing the old with the new, Mary Phelan takes a look at our long standing obsession with fairies. The Little People have been a part of our lore for generations, but are they still tinkering in our business, even now? We’ll leave you to make up your own mind on that one!

Enjoy the issue.
