Milwaukee Irish Fest, the world’s largest celebration of Irish music and culture, is returning once again to the shores of Lake Michigan and we can’t wait! The Milwaukee Irish Fest is held annually on the third weekend in August at the Henry W Maier Festival Park. The festival is presented by CelticMKE, a year-round organization dedicated to igniting a love of Irish and Celtic culture in people across the globe.

Basically, it’s the place to go for the best in Irish music, dancing, sports, children’s activities, cultural exhibits and more.

The festival started in 1981, and has grown annually to become the spectacle it is now, which sees over 130,000 attend the festival to see 250 acts perform across 17 stages. This year, performers include Hermitage Green, the Glencastle Irish dancers, the High Kings, Turner Collins and Rum Ragged.

A feast for all the family, Irish Fest features an entire area dedicated to children’s activities. Little visitors can expect to enjoy arts and crafts, mini Irish sports, parades and celtic canine competitions! There’s also two children’s entertainment stages, which will feature puppetry alongside musical performances.

Galway Abú

And this year, Milwaukee Irish Fest is excited to feature the vibrant music and culture of Galway! In 2020, Galway will reign as the European Capital of Culture, which is one of the most recognized EU projects. The concept for Galway2020 is Making Waves. It is about creating new ways of thinking, new ways of working, new conversations and new partnerships aimed at ensuring a more creative Galway. Galway2020 will explore themes of migration, landscape and language - to celebrate the diversity of culture in Europe on the backdrop of Galway, whilst promoting the city, the county and the collective imagination of the Galway region itself.

Explore the Galway Showcase to hear the best in Galway artists, icluding BackWest; The Kane Sisters; Leo Moran and Padraig Stevens; We Banjo 3 and The Whileaways. The showcase will also highlight Galway artisans who will be on hand to showcase their art and demonstrate the work. As well as shining a light on the cultural and historical importance of Galway, including an exhibt in the Cultural Area featuring the maps of Connemara, which are on loan from the National University of Ireland.
