Róisín Waters sang her mother Sinéad O'Connor's hit song "Nothing Compares 2 U" at Carnegie Hall in New York City last night, March 20, during a tribute con‐ cert to O'Connor and Shane MacGowan. Waters, 28, sang "Nothing Compares 2 U" on stage during the three-hour trib‐ ute concert to the two Irish music leg‐ ends who passed away just months apart from each other in 2023.

A cover of Prince's song, "Nothing Com‐ pares 2 U" was released in 1990 on Sinead O'Connor's Grammy-winning al‐ bum "I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got." The song helped spur O'Connor's climb to fame as it spent weeks at number one on the Irish and UK charts. Waters' performance garnered cheers and applause from the New York audi‐ ence on Wednesday night. She appeared barefoot on stage and was backed by a live band.

Waters is the second eldest and only daughter of O'Connor's four children. Elsewhere during the three-hour tribute concert, musicians such as Glen Hansard, Imelda May, former Pogues member Cáit O’Riordan, David Gray, Cat Power, and Resistance Revival Chorus paid tribute to Sinéad O'Connor and Shane MacGowan during "Sinéad & Shane at Carnegie Hall." Echoing his performance at Shane Mac‐ Gowan's funeral in November, Glen Hansard paired up with Cáit O’Riordan to perform "Fairytale of New York." The tribute concert also saw Bettye LaVette sing O’Connor’s "I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got," Cat Power deliv‐ ered her version of The Pogues’ "The Body Of An American," and the Resis‐ tance Revival Chorus covered O’Con‐ nor’s "Thank You For Hearing Me." Hansard and May joined forces to per‐ form MacGowan and O’Connor’s duet "Haunted," while Billy Bragg put his spin on The Pogues’ "A Rainy Night In Soho." 56-year-old O'Connor was found dead in her London flat on July 26, 2023. Au‐ thorities later confirmed that she died of natural causes.

A few months later, MacGowan passed away on November 30 at the age of 65 following a long battle with illness.
