New RTÉ series unlocks secrets behind Ireland's museums

"Ireland's Hidden Treasures," a new se‐ ries from RTÉ, lets viewers explore be‐ hind the scenes of the best museums on the Emerald Isle.

Immerse yourself in a captivatin­g journey with "Ireland's Hidden Trea‐ sures," a three-part series that high‐ lights the country's cultural heritage in a way like never before. The show artfully demystifi es the world of museums, making Ireland's rich history not just ac‐ cessible but irresistib­ly engaging for all. Venture behind the scenes of the iconic National Library and National Museum of Ireland, where hidden stories and se‐ crets come to life through the passion‐ ate eyes of those who guard these na‐ tional treasures. Prepare to journey the length and breadth of the country as some of the nation’s most fascinatin­g regional museums are revealed. Episode 2, airing on Sunday, April 28 at 6.30pm on RTÉ One, features Dr. Siob‐ hán Doyle, author of ‘The History of the GAA in 100 Items’. Follow Siobhán as she oversees the meticulous restoratio­n of a 19th-century Renaissanc­e Della Robbia ceramic in Dublin's National Museum, and then y down to the Cork

Public Museum to unveil the Hoyten- Rutter photograph­ic collection, gifting audiences a unique glimpse of Cork city and culture during the early 1900s. The series brings the past into the present with vivid clarity as the journey continues with Gerry Long, Assistant Keeper, Special Collection­s, who takes viewers behind the bookshelve­s and un‐ boxes the secrets and hidden histories of the National Library of Ireland. From the Yeats sisters to the famous Irish language publishers Sáirséal agus Dill, Gerry reveals some of highlights in the collection­s of the NLI.

The show also follows Darragh Kenny, a young treasure hunter from Cork who returns to the National Museum of Ire‐ land to see the 5,000 year old ar‐ rowhead he unearthed on Dunworley Beach in 2022. Finally, y around the country to experience the wonders of the Galway City Museum in Galway and the unique charm of the Cashel Folk Vil‐ lage in Co. Tipperary .
