This is my kind of revenge dressing
FASHION COLUMNIST AND INFLUENCER JOANNE HEGARTY
Some will say it’s Covid revenge dressing – a world with a new hunger for glamour and fun – but spring is awash with bold looks. I’m a big fan of challenging personal boundaries when it comes to our wardrobes. I also believe experimenting with clothes is always life-enhancing, no matter what your age, which is why I’m looking forward to giving these standout new trends a go…
★ The mini is back and having a very welcome moment after so long in midis. Admittedly,
I’m more surprised than anyone that I’m embracing this leg-unleashing trend (I blame actress Anne Hathaway, 39, who recently rocked a very mini mini and looked amazing), but life really is too short to deny myself the pleasure of wearing a chic mini bouclé dress. For the minidress shy, try a style with long sleeves, which balances out proportions, and team with tights and knee-high boots.
★ Leather and denim jackets are the cover-ups for spring. Yes, both are forecast to take centre stage. I’m planning to wear a denim jacket buttoned up with a pair of high-waisted trousers, a white shirt and gold statement jewellery. Or, when the weather warms up, a summer dress.
As for a leather jacket, my favourite style is a 90s minimalist blazer, which I’ll wear with a simple white T-shirt and favourite denims.
★ Knits get zingy. This spring nothing will freshen up your look more than a bright, cheery knit. Team with a favourite denim skirt or white wide-leg trousers. On the high street,
Cos, & Other Stories and Arket have a great selection, while designer-wise The Frankie Shop and & Daughter are the brands to check out at matchesfashion.com and net-a-porter.com.
★ Jewellery is BIG. Last year the chunky chain necklace was a huge trend and it’s sticking around. For spring, layer over knitwear and polonecks for an up-to-date twist.
I’m a big fan of transforming the look of an outfit with a statement piece, so I’ll be checking out the fabulous cocktail rings by Tay Jewellery and Crystal Haze’s sparkly reinvention of classic designs. Curated-crowd.com, which brings individual designers together under one virtual roof, will also get a peruse.
So what’s your something new and exciting to experiment with this season? Let me know @thestylistandthewardrobe
