WINE IDEAS:
Jacques always has a brilliant wine selection and some great suggestions (such as a half-bottle of dry sherry and olives for €24) and there are some lovely things by the glass, carafe and bottle such as the fresh, zesty Los Aljibes from Spain at €7.50/€10.50/€27.50 and a chunky Tempranillo from Castilla y León for the same price. Organic Muscadet from La Louvetrie is €9/€25/€34. The unusual Gasper Chardonnay from Slovenia (pictured) is only €30 while the rare Domaine Bruno Lupin Cru Frangy, made from the Rousette grape is a keen €40 (and very wisely recommended with pork). Bender Pinot Noir from Germany is a bargain at €36 and the big and beefy Domaine Taillfer Faugères is described, quite accurately as ‘made by a mad woman up a mountain’! There isn’t a single dull wine on this list.
