We all need good foundations
And these clever new launches deliver instant radiance and super-natural finishes
However much people talk about trends, what drives beauty forward is technology. New developments mean new textures – and that’s what makes cosmetics look modern. So it is with the latest foundations – even full coverage feels lightweight and looks natural. Here’s my roundup of the best of the latest launches. I found they all lasted well throughout the day and weren’t dehydrating…
Maybelline Instant Anti Age Perfector 4-in-1 Whipped Matte Makeup has a mousse-like texture, is very mattifying and will help to blur the look of fine lines – not eradicate, so manage expectations. Available in six shades. €17.99, boots.ie.
Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Light Revealer does exactly what it says with a more luminous finish than its iconic tinted moisturiser. Wonderful for when you want a bit of sheer coverage so your complexion is boosted rather than covered – but you can build it up a little. The launch has now been delayed until the summer but check lauramercier.com for updates.
Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin-Caring Matte is beautifully luxurious to use and a great formula. It is matte but has a dash of luminosity and gives a delectable finish. Skincare benefits include nasturtium extract to naturally boost oxygenation and thereby radiance, plus annatto extract to tighten pores. A firm favourite of mine. Available in 35 shades. €46.35, boots.ie.
Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation is a great product. There’s been much hype around it and rightly so. It offers medium coverage and a bit of a mix of demi-matte and demi-glow finish. The effect is healthy-looking skin with just enough of a dash of radiance to add light. Thanks to the inclusion of hydrating hyaluronic acid this didn’t feel drying at all. Available in 30 shades. €40, arnotts.ie
The Body Shop Fresh Nude isn’t new but it has been improved. It now has 40 shades, soothing vitamin E and hydrating
Fair Trade organic aloe vera. It’s also certified vegan and housed in
100 per cent recyclable packaging. I really rate this: it delivers a light to medium coverage, feels as though you’re wearing nothing and gives skin a natural radiance. €22, thebodyshop.com.
Erborian Super BB is a new full-coverage version of the brand’s brilliant BB. It’s also part matte, part glow and great for those who suffer from breakouts and redness. It’s full of skin-friendly ingredients, including ginseng to moisturise and niacinamide to reduce imperfections. Available in five shades. €21.50, next.ie.
