If you feel your hiking days are over now that children are in tow, fear not – here’s some of the best trails around the country that are family-friendly

One of the most enjoyable ways to enjoy time with your little one, no matter how old they are, is to get outside in nature. Exploring the great outdoors, whether from the vantage point of their buggy or holding your hand, children really do put the wonder in wonderful.

Here’s some lovely buggyfrien­dly walks, with parking, for mums and dads to consider as the weather gets warmer.

This wondrous heritage site was forged by volcanic activity over six million years ago. A site to behold, The

Giant’s Causeway is home to a variety of different walkways, however the Green Trail is the ideal choice for families as it is buggy-friendly. It is also fenced off from the clifftops so children can roam safely.

This little wood on a hill overlookin­g Cork harbour offers two looped walks around the 35-acre wood. The Gazebo Loop is 1.5km and takes you up to the top of the hill to the tea house from where you can admire the stunning harbour views. The Terrace Loop is just over 2km around the perimeter of the wood. Suitable for buggies, with a car park and a picnic area too.

Ardgillan Castle Park is located near Skerries in Dublin. There are several walking trails including an interactiv­e story trail for young families. Positioned only a short walk from the beach, with lots of lovely walks through gardens and forests, plenty of picnic areas and a car park, this destinatio­n would make a great family day out.
