A little spray of sunshine

Be transported with a feel-good fragrance

-

Might you be in the market for a summer scent that takes you (metaphorically speaking) to where balmy breezes blow?

If so, there’s a new summer fragrance for that.

First is Whïnd’s debut foray into the perfume world (the brand makes some of my favourite skincare) with a collection of six aromas all inspired by Morocco. My favourite: Néroli Bronzé

(€180, whind.com). It’s a really bright burst of neroli with a strong citrus twist – as if you’ve just shaved off the top of the peel from a really juicy orange. There’s also that aroma of the sunny warmth of North Africa, where everything from the earth to the furniture seems to have been molecularly changed by the sun’s rays and has a mildly baked whiff.

Sisley’s latest launch is part of a family affair with seven offerings of L’Eau Rêvée all inspired by and dedicated to members of the d’Ornano clan (who founded and own the brand). I love L’Eau Rêvée d’Hubert

(from €92 brownthomas.com), which centres on Egyptian geranium blended with patchouli and cedar. The result is a clear, crisp greenness with an outdoors freshness to it – a start-of-the-day lightness to the holiday air when the sun is up but the temperature hasn’t yet risen.

Every year as spring arrives so too does Estée Lauder’s Bronze Goddess (from €73, boots.ie) start coming into view. Alongside this classic aroma, which sums up summer holidays and elegant beach ambience – coconut milk, vanilla, jasmine – there is a limited-edition version and this year its L’Eau de Lumière EDP (€74.45 has escapist notes of lemon leaf and mandarin orange.

Chloé’s Atelier des Fleurs Jasminum Sambac (from €119 chloe.com) is a glorious summer scent and part of a new stable of perfumes dedicated to elevating key fragrance notes. The intention is that you buy more than one to layer and create your own unique blend – though it’s a pricey endeavour. Regardless, each stands alone perfectly.

Not a newcomer but something you may not have discovered is Sana Jardin’s Jaipur Chant (€110, sanajardin.com). I came across it when a friend was wearing it and I wouldn’t release her from a hello hug because I wanted to keep inhaling this on her neck. It’s a serious love letter to tuberose, blended with jasmine, lemon and musk. The delectable result is sexy, exotic and wildly grown up.
