The closest I get to Rory nowadays is on Twitter, admits Holly

-

THEY used to be inseparable but now the closest Holly Sweeney can get to golfer Rory Mcilroy seems to be his Twitter account. Since their split, Holly has been making a name for herself as a model, cheerleader and TV star in Celebrity Come Dine With Me.

So when she wanted to congratulate her ex for – briefly – becomi ng world No. 1, Holly did so online.

‘It was fantastic,’ she said of Rory’s week at the top. ‘I gave him a wee tweet to celebrate.

‘I never really see him anyway, so that’s the best you can get.’

Holly says she is over the split from her boyfriend of six years. They broke up just as his career began to take off big time.

And while it allowed her to earn a profile for herself, she has grabbed the chance with both hands by taking a year off from her studies.

She said: ‘ I’m really enjoying it. I have about six months l eft of my year out and it’s coming into summer so it will pr o bably get better.’

Holly insisted that she has no plans to sign with a modell i ng agency, saying she just prefers to dabble a bit. ROCK ‘N’ ROLL has taken its toll on Wet Wet Wet, with problems over royalties as well as drink and drugs often tearing the band apart. So to celebrate their 25th anniversary together, give or take a six-year hiatus, the former heart-throbs are performing a one-off concert on July 20 at the Glasgow Green. She said: ‘I’ve done a couple of things but it’s not really the main agenda. I’m keeping my options open. I have a year to do whatever I want, so I can dabble in a lot of things.’

The break-up was particularly public because Rory seemed to quickly hook up with world No.6 tennis player Caroline Wozniacki.

In January, Holly insisted that their split had been amicable.

She said: ‘ We are [friends] of course. Why should I forget the six years that were fantastic for one last horrible memory?’

But she said she knew he had had a ‘ crush’ on the tennis star before their split. Holly, pictured, said: ‘He went to a boxing match with a couple of his friends a nd I di dn’ t really hear from him.

‘ He came back f r om the mat c h and I got a little bit of a blank. I thought, “Oh no, something has happened here”. ‘We talked it through and we weren’t together by the end of the night.’
