I’m just a normal mother, says €150m Penny
WITH a rock star husband, a €150million fortune and two mansions to choose from, Penny Lancaster is hardly your average housewife.
But the ex-model, who has two sons with Rod Stewart, insists she is just a ‘down-to-earth Essex mum’.
Miss Lancaster, 41, who divides her time between Stewart’s eight-bedroom mansion in Beverly Hills and the family’s 180-acre estate in Epping, 15km north-east of London, is presenting a series of documentaries on Hollywood for ITV’s Lorraine show.
‘I think there’s always interest in how the other half live – I see myself as a down-to-earth Essex mum who just happens to be living this very glamorous life in Beverly Hills,’ she told Hello! magazine.
The 6ft 1in blonde – who towers over her husband – described herself as a stay-at-home mother to sixyear-old Alastair and 18-month-old Aiden – when not working on a project. She recalled how her older son asked her what she did for a living. ‘Alastair said to me, “People ask me, ‘What does your daddy do?’ and I tell them he’s a singer. What do I tell people that you do?” I said to him, “I’m your mummy, I stay at home and look after you and do little odd jobs here and there”. He didn’t seem satisfied with that answer.’
So her hopes of taking on more TV work will no doubt please her little boy.
Stewart, 67, it seems, can cope with the childminding. Alastair loves watching football with him and the boys often ask for him to supervise their bathtime. ‘I just say, “Well here are your pyjamas”, and let Rod get on with it,’ said Miss Lancaster. ‘Then mummy gets some time to herself too.’
