Left out on a wing

FOR a returning corncrake to be unable to find a partner is a sad state of affairs. Though there are apparently available females on Tory Island and along the west coast, none are making their presence known in the Midlands. So experts reckon a sole lovelorn male will fly back to Africa this autumn without having mated. We can only hope his adventures in the dating game are more successful on the opposite side of the world.
