Britt the Bond girl now likes to stay in the shade

- Irish Daily Mail Reporter

IN her Bond girl heyday, she was one of the world’s most desired and photographed starlets.

But that was nearly 40 years ago and now, at 70, Britt Ekland hides under a baseball cap and sunglasses as she takes a stroll in Hollywood.

The Swedish actress, best known for her roles in the 1974 Bond film The Man With The Golden Gun and 1973 cult horror The Wicker Man, was dressed down for the walk with her chihuahua Tequila. And without the

benefit of make-up, her face appeared puffy – perhaps the legacy of past plastic surgery.

But her figure, clad in sloppy jumper and tracksuit bottoms, still looked as trim as in her halcyon years.

Ms Ekland first found fame in 1964 when she married the British actor Peter Sellers, who was 17 years her senior, after a ten-day courtship.

They divorced four years later, following a turbulent marriage marred by Sellers’s manic depression. In an interview with Piers Morgan, she said: ‘What was I thinking? That’s what I should have asked myself. I just fell madly in love with him.

‘He was suave and sophisticated. The age gap did not bother me,’ she said.

She also described how Sellers wooed her with drugs. She said: ‘ He asked, “Have you ever smoked a cigarette like this? It’s marijuana. This is what you do.” I did this and the next thing I remember I was on the terrace and he was kissing me.’

She went on to date some of the world’s then most eligible bachelors, i ncluding George Hamilton, Rod Stewart and Warren Beatty.

However, earlier this year the twicemarried mother of three described herself as ‘the most reluctant sexbomb’ who had ‘no idea what effect I had on men’. Indeed, she said she’s more than happy on her own

‘I have not had a man for 20 years. If I did miss it, why would I not have one?’ she asked.
