I’d fancy a quieter life, says Depp as he talks retirement

-

HE’S one of the most bankable box office stars in Hollywood, but Johnny Depp has revealed that he could be retiring from movie-making in the not-so-distant future. Describing the life of an actor as ‘a kind of insane option for a human being’, the 50-year- old superstar, pictured, explained that while he would not be ‘ dropping out any second’, the moment was ‘probably not too far away’.

‘At a certain point you start thinking and you know when you add up the amount of dialogue you say per year, for example, and you realise that you’ve said written words more than you’ve actually had a chance to say your own words,’ he said.

‘You start thinking about that as a kind of insane option for a human being. So are there quieter things that I wouldn’t mind doing? Yeah, I would not mind that.’

But Depp hinted he might appear once more as Captain Jack Sparrow in another installment of the hit Pirates Of The Caribbean series.

The three-time Oscar nominee, who split f r om long-term partner Vanessa Paradis, 40, last year, most recently starred in The Lone Ranger.

The film, in which Depp plays the titular character’s sidekick Tonto , has received a mixed reception from critics. But the star hit back at those who panned the movie, claiming he didn’t care what naysayers think were as long as his children ( Lily- Rose, 14, and Jack, 11) enjoyed it. Speaking in Germany last week, he said he wasn’t bothered by criticism from back home: ‘ To be quite honest I couldn’t give a rats’ about US journalists’ opinions.

‘ What I do care about is my kids’ opinions and they loved it, they loved the ride and maybe they are biased, slightly, but for all purposes my kids were able to forget that it was Daddy five or ten minutes into the film and they enjoyed the ride.’
